Linksys Router Wireless Encryption Guide

Go to Start -> Run -> in the “Open” box, type command

Select “OK”

This will open a DOS window. Type ipconfig
Verify the IP address of the Default Gateway.
For Linksys routers, it is usually set to 192.168.1.1

Open Internet Explorer (or other web browser) and browse to the IP address of the Default Gateway. You will be prompted for the username and password.

The username should be left blank and the password is admin.

This page should display.

Select the ‘Wireless’ tab.

Select the ‘Wireless Security’ tab.

Select WPA Personal as the Security Mode.

Select AES for the WPA Algorithms

Type in a password for the WPA Shared Key

Click ‘Save Settings’

Your wireless security is now set up. When you try to connect the first time on a wireless device, you will be prompted for a WPA Key Code. Type in the password you selected and connect. Your laptop should remember the code thereafter and connect automatically.
